This personal residence for a mosaic artist, situated in Virginia Seaside, Virginia developed by GRADE. In developing the venture, GRADE responded to 2 disparate situations of the site: the expansive views of Chesapeake Bay and the mystic wooded spot on which it resided. The objective was to reconcile the client’s need for a studio in which to design and produce whilst not rendering the room hermetic and closed off to its surroundings.
GRADE brought nature’s factors indoors, establishing a basis of earthy textures such as normal mahogany wood and a curved zinc rooftop, complemented by imported materials this kind of as Italian marble. Through thoughtful style, the house grew to become an apparatus for filtering the views of the water, with the curved roof allowing the scale of the beachside area to broaden the closer one’s proximity to the bay.
