Home A&B is a mid-century modern day dream property in Perchtoldsdorf, Austria. Transformed from a summertime retreat, this minimalist dwelling was made by Smertnik Kraut Architekten for a couple who appreciates art and design.
The vibe is decidedly Californian with its flat roof, open plan, glazed walls, terrazzo floors and outside pool terrace. From the street, the stark white residence is hidden behind a white wall and mechanized, retractable metal garage door. The carport sits at the shorter finish of the L-shaped framework and portrays white vertical slats permitting for a peek into the yard and gardens. An adjacent path follows the building, top to the home’s entrance of a glass-panel door.
The rear facade is fully glazed, an additional nod to the Golden State’s architecture. A dining patio features a white round table flanked by lime-yellow “S” chairs. The linear swimming pool sits adjacent and is presided more than by an opulent green-marble privacy wall–love the contrast among easy and sublime!
After inside, it’s the customized rosewood finishes which beautify the space. The kitchen cabinetry, marble-topped island and different walls all through this mod dwelling are wrapped in this beautiful grained wood.
Designer furnishings are mixed with newer mid-century modern day pieces, which are an perfect counterpart to the colorful array of framed graphic art displayed on the walls. A chrome and glass-globe chandelier is gracefully set up above the dining table with tulip chairs, illuminating this main living spot, although including a hip energy to the area.
What is so special is that the walls diving the interiors are not complete, rather floating partitions which develop privacy with no closing off the connected, fluid spaces. Exposed concrete walls are a striking juxtaposition to the warmth of the wood, whilst the smooth terrazzo flooring during adds a retro vibe.
