The Rowing High Overall performance Centre in Pocinho, northern Portugal is an example of complicated modern day architecture. The new mega-structure is located in 1 of the most lovely valleys in the planet – the Douro valley – 1 of the spots of decision for champions of this sport. The venture was envisioned by Portuguese architect Álvaro Fernandes Andrade (an official site is not offered at the minute) and is composed of 3 crucial sections: Social Zone, Housing and Education. Intricacy is the defining characteristic for the layout: “Terraces and clusters of buildings, abrupt, tense connections tearing via terraces, steep ramps, and stairs in between walls, typically in the open, are all covered right here in buy to meet the wants of the system” explained Andrade.
The whole project fuses with the reinterpretation of 2 secular factors of landscape construction in Douro Valley: the walled terraced, a recurrent form of “inhabiting” this place, and the great white volumes of big production units. Deployed along the terrain, these developing components are formally complicated and volumetrically diverse. [Photos and information supplied via e-mail by Joao Morgado Architecture Photography]
