The Makeover Strategy

Do you come up with a strategy of action ahead of starting your design tasks? Or do you see where the approach will take you and go with the movement? I did a minor of each for this undertaking. Below (photographs one and 2) we see how the area looked prior to I began the makeover. Sort of drab, proper?!

The most significant obstacle was a double cabinet hanging correct above the washer and dryer connections. The dilemma: placing the appliances side by side would render our door to the backyard fully ineffective. The cabinets had to be moved to the other side of the space so we could install a stackable washer and dryer. We got some assist with this component of the undertaking, as it involved a bit of woodworking!

When the cabinet had been moved, I knew it was time to paint the doors. In fact, I was inspired to embellish them with a 2-tone geometric layout. I utilised an alternating motif, painting one cabinet door tomato red whilst dividing the subsequent door in half with the help of a diagonal line developed with painter’s tape. The authentic cream paint remained on the cabinets, and I located bold red-orange to be the ideal accent shade.

It took many coats of paint to pull this off, but I’m happy to report that contrary to originally insisting that the cabinet doors would have to be eliminated for the painting approach, I was in a position to paint them even though even now on the hinges. Whew! Then it was time to organize the area, which I’ll speak far more about in the up coming segment.

A Practical Space

We’ll get to the ar2rk and decor in a minute, but first let’s delve into the approach of organizing this space. Did I mention that this space doubles as a kitty room? The laundry supplies are concealed behind the cabinet doors, but we need Kitty’s loot out in the open for simple access. The industrial-design shelf you see under is from The Container Store.

My hubby and I had these Metro shelves at our last spot, but what we didn’t have were the bins and boxes that you see above. I identified some plastic bins with tomato red tops at Target, and added bins came from The Container Keep. Below we see why getting a stackable washer and dryer was essential for this area. Stacking the appliances meant far more room to access our backyard. In reality, that door wouldn’t open with a side-by-side washer and dryer in area:

See the candy jars beneath?! We picked them up at Target. They’re perfect for storing Kitty’s treats and medicines. And yes, I put a plant in front of a single of our cabinet doors. Keep in mind, effortless access is key in a functional room.
