“We have been approached by clientele looking to unlock the likely of a backland internet site set in the rear half of an present suburban garden in Surrey. Their brief was to produce a modern residence for 3 generations of their household.

The layout utilizes the irregular shape of the current backyard to tuck the proposed residence into an unassuming triangular pocket to the side of the garden that maintains prolonged views from the principal house. The proposed residence is orientated to minimise overlooking to/from an apartment development to the East and maximizes afternoon and evening sun by getting orientated West.

Our client’s ambition to have a relaxed, informal series of residing spaces function well with the asymmetric volumes developed. The robust bodily connection to the garden aims to lengthen the calm modernism of the inner spaces out to the backyard backdrop.

A very insulated building fabric with each other with an integrated Heat Recovery Ventilation Program ensures the demand for internal area heating is kept to a minimum. Solar water panels offer most of the scorching water demand and a completely integrated rain-water harvester contributes to cold water provide.

The palette of external components of vertical batten Western Red Cedar and dark grey smooth render subtly blends the house into its surrounding surroundings. Internally the use of a dark American Walnut, polished concrete, complimented by an off-white wall finish and deep slate grey finish to bathroom places offers the venture a warm materials richness.”
