Australian architect Clare Cousins has created the Beach House.
Completed in 2013, this 516 square foot modern pavilion in Mornington, Australia, was developed totally of natural materials as an addition to an current residence.
Beach Property by Clare Cousins:
“The quick was to supply extra accommodation to an present 1970’s Merchant Builder’s house in Mornington, Victoria. Positioned on a sloping block, the existing single storey residence is sited well back on the block with constrained access to ocean views. Rather than demolish or renovate the existing constructing our method was to keep the developing in tact and style a new pavilion to sit adjacent to the original at the front of the site.
The new pavillion consists of a new master bedroom wing with residing space and deck for outdoor dining that captures broad views of Port Philip Bay.
Organizing regulations permit only 1st floor structures that are situated in excess of auto parking or storage locations which informed the elevated ‘stilt’ design. Timber building is employed holistically each internally and externally even though an enclosed circulation stair clad in translucent polycarbonate connects the original to the new structure.”
