Even the bamboo backyard beyond the kitchen is noticeable from the living hall – an openness that is visually and spatially liberating.

The stairwell acts as a lantern contained by a double glazed enclosure and illuminated by the moon-like wall lights. The double volume informal loved ones hall is positioned on the initial floor overlooking into the fountain courtyard. A hanging roof garden with giant yucca trees sits on the roof of the front concrete portico. Hallways lead to the a variety of bedrooms. The western façade is protected by a wraparound metal box louver sun display. The property is completely cross ventilated with minimum mechanical air conditioning. The huge roof has 200mm (8in) thick 50kg/m3 (110lb/35ft3) rockwool and 2 layers of heat reflective foil in addition to a totally ventilated roof room that houses the rainwater harvesting tanks.
