“Architects: The internet site, with an practically rectangular form, has 914.2 m2 (9,840 ft2) and is inserted into a residential neighborhood in Lisbon. Topographically the site is characterized by a drop of about 2 m (6.5 ft), with the longest axis, oriented east / west, with the highest point on the side of the accessibility street.

The way the property is implanted on the ground arises on one hand from the regulatory implementation of polygons, and on the other hand from the intention of creating a backyard with a south facing pool, sheltered by the volume of the home.

Therefore, the unevenness of the terrain and its orientation established and conditioned the way the home develops. We sought is a robust interaction between the home and the land, taking greatest advantage of solar orientation and present topography.

Spatial Organization

The house is organized into 3 ranges, 2 floors above ground and 1 underground.

Volumetrically, the house is developed in 2 volumes, a more substantial 1 and a smaller one particular, forming an L-form. The taller and far more compressed volume is created along the east / west axis, and the reduce entire body, only 1 story high, is laid out parallel to the street.

Each of these volumes is organized to offer a strong inside / outdoors relationship by extending interior spaces to the outdoors by means of courtyards and balconies. These transitional spaces are also critical to shield big glass surfaces from the sun. There is a powerful hyperlink among the floors by way of double ceiling heights, such as in the lobby and the living room.

On the ground floor, the spaces are quite interconnected. The hall is the most fluid area of the house, with a very distinct dynamic, designed by the progressive variation in levels and the big difference in ceiling heights.

The living room has 2 distinct places. A much more intimate area directly enjoys the fireplace, and yet another more open region is connected to the garden through a big glazed surface dealing with south. Still facing the garden, the dining area and kitchen are in the lower volume of the residence, facing west.

There is also a multipurpose space dealing with west that communicates with an exterior location, covered by a concrete pergola which offers an fascinating play of shadows to this space.

On the 1st floor are 4 bedrooms, all of them with individual toilets. The master suite has a closet and a modest personal gymnasium, open towards a mezzanine more than the residing room.

In order to make the circulation between rooms on this floor far more fascinating, we provide zenith lighting by means of skylights organized in accordance to a pattern of the wall panel that integrates the bedroom doors. Access to the master bedroom is through a catwalk that crosses the double height of the living space.

All the bedrooms are facing south and west, and the huge windows are protected by operable horizontal shutters that can be opened. These shutters are repeated on the opaque north facade, searching for to produce a single language for this floor.

In the basement, in addition to spacious garage, creating services and storage location, there is a game space / cinema, a music space, a bedroom and 2 toilets, one particular of them serving the pool.”
