Central London Flat by VW+BS:

“This central London flat belongs to an extended loved ones of several generations from South East Asia, who frequently visit London for function and pleasure. There could be, at the exact same time, 2 families staying for 2 weeks vacation or just 2 adults in London for a few days of work. Therefore the short to us was to generate as versatile a space as possible that could accommodate a range of functions, and be straightforward in layout.

Our starting up point was to see how we could reinstate the very first floor area back to something of its initially meant proportions so that the 3 tall arched french windows at the front could be restored and the wonderful terrace overlooking the street with its wrought iron railings be brought back into use.

Then we wished to make use of the height of the area (4.2 metres [14 feet]) so we incorporated an added mezzanine bedroom/review more than the open program kitchen, which could be closed off with a translucent polycarbonate folding screen – a large one opening on to the major living room, and a considerably smaller display looking over the staircases at the back. When open, there are views from the front right through to the back bedrooms. At the very same time, the spaces can be closed off with a massive floor to ceiling pivoting door so that people can come and go with a level of privacy.

The finishes are straightforward – oak floors and joinery, and white painted plaster walls – so that it can suit the tastes of all the site visitors. Though the really feel of the flat is now very modern, (there have been no unique Victorian features left in the flat when we started out function) the sense of an sophisticated Victorian drawing room has been partly restored by the cautious refurbishment of the windows and shutters along the total width of the front.”
